What is a surrogate father?

A surrogate father is a man who acts as a father figure, mentor or role model to a child who is not his biological child. There are different reasons why a child may need a surrogate father, such as absence of a biological father, death or divorce of a father, or even a single mother seeking a male role model for her child. A surrogate father provides emotional support, guidance, protection and love to the child, and helps them develop positive values and life skills. Surrogate fathers can be family members, friends, coaches, teachers, neighbors or volunteers in youth programs. Building and maintaining a strong relationship with a surrogate father can have a positive impact on a child's wellbeing and future success.
